Coffee and Type 2 Diabetes

Coffee-lovers rejoice. Fresh research reveals that drinking just a little extra coffee a day may help keep diabetes away.
The finding follows an analysis of 3 large national studies. Every 4 years- for more than 20 years- the research teams tracked changes in tea and coffee-drinking habits among a combined total of roughly 124,000 men and women, between the ages of 25 and 75. Changes in the amount of tea or decaffeinated coffee consumed had no impact on diabetes risk.
However, those who increased their caffeinated coffee intake by about 1 and half cups saw their long-term risk for type 2 diabetes plummet by 11%. By contrast those who lowered their daily coffee intake by 1 cup or more saw their diabetes risk jump by 17%.
The study team also determined that the biggest coffee drinkers those who regularly drank 3 or more cups of Joe a day had the lowest overall diabetes risk. How low? 37% lower than those who drank only one cup a day or less.
