Hammond Man Thankful For Offers Of Kidney Donations

Story Updated: Nov 29, 2013

It started with a Facebook page, "Scott Needs a Kidney" and then 7 News shared his story on air, on the web, and on social media.

The response was overwhelming.

Scott Kron was on 7 News four weeks ago. When he spoke with  Erie County Medical Center  a few days later, he knew the message was heard loud and clear.

"They said we're getting bombarded with calls and I told them the news had picked up the story," Kron said, "and all they could say was 'oh,boy.'"

Since then, many have been tested and he's very close to a match. The potential donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, is from Lewis County and first saw the story on the 7 News Facebook page.

"I talked to her husband and I talked to her," Kron said, "and they're all for doing it."

For Kron and his wife, Darlene, the surgery would be a dream come true. Both are EMTs and have been proponents of organ donation.

Their own personal experience now strengthens that commitment.

"Because you don't ever know whose life you're going to be saving and doing donations, you can save a life," Darlene Kron said.

"Just because one person cares, I'll be able to go back to work and I'll be able to support my family and stuff and maintain a life again," Scott Kron said.

During this holiday season, a special thank you for everyone has has heard the pleas from Scott and countless others to be organ donors. There is no greater gift you can give.

I want to thank everybody that got tested and or tried to get tested. But there is 1000's that still need help. I was a lucky one who caught the eye of the news and papers. Thanks to all and god bless
