Plea For Kidney Is Now A Success Story

Story Updated: Jan 16, 2014

Scott Kron is out of intensive care and heading home Friday.

Not only does he now have the kidney he dreamed of, he has made a friend for life.

It was in October that we first reported on Scott and his Facebook page, Scott Needs a Kidney.

It was the posting of that story on the 7 News Facebook page that united him with his eventual donor, Vangie Yelton.

On Monday, his six-hour transplant surgery was a success.

Scott has had no signs of rejection and his new kidney is functioning even better than doctors had hoped.

We spoke to Scott Thursday via phone from his hospital room at Erie County Medical Center.

"I'm ecstatic over the fact that with the help of you guys and Facebook that I was able to get a kidney in just over a year," he said.

Meanwhile, Vangie was discharged from the hospital Thursday.

She says she is on an emotional high and her goal now is to encourage others to consider being live donors.

"I just feel it's the most amazing gift you can give. The rewards you receive are amazing," said Vangie.

And Scott certainly agrees!
