Tomorrow's Health: Fussy Babies

Story Updated: Apr 22, 2014

There's another concern if you have a fussy baby.

Babies and toddlers who struggle to self-sooth and sleep more often wind up in front of the television or computer, according to a new study in the journal Pediatrics.

Researchers tracked the media-viewing habits of 7,400 children over a two-year period.

Pregnancy Weight Gain

New research finds 20 percent of women who gain too much weight during pregnancy have children who are overweight or obese.

The Kaiser Pemanente study compared the health records of over 4,000 California women with the health records of their 2- to 5-year-old children.

Researchers also found women who did not gain enough weight during pregnancy were 63 percent more likely to have a child who became overweight or obese.

Epilepsy Dangers

Children and young adults with epilepsy are more likely to suffer broken bones, burns and poisonings than people without the condition.

British researchers found the number of poisonings by medication were significantly higher, especially among college-age patients.
