Feedback: Volunteers Needed For Cancer Prevention Study

The American Cancer Society is looking for volunteers in to take part in a long-running study to help determine what causes cancer. 

Gordon Allen is a bladder cancer survivor.

Years before his diagnosis and treatment, he became involved with the prevention study and he's glad he did.

"I don't know my one study helped, but when you combine them with millions of surveys that were filled out, it probably did have an effect," said Allen.

The goal is to pinpoint why people certain people get cancer.

"It's a 20 year commitment and we're asking every two years for folks to fill out a questionnaire for 30 to 35 minutes," said Don Boshart, American Cancer Society

To participate, you need to be between the ages of 30 and 65 and never diagnosed with cancer, with the exception of some skin cancers. 

You have to be willing to make a long-term commitment. 

Although the study is being kicked off in Lewis County, everyone is invited to participate.

Allen says taking part is simple and says it's worth the minimal effort required.

"We're making advances every day on cancer research and the cure of cancer and we just got to keep going," said Allen.
