Y-Time: Learning To Walk Again

Story Updated: Apr 15, 2013

Melissa is without pain for the first time in a long time.

She was born with poor circulation in her foot and it has been painful for most of her life.
A broken toe wouldn't heal. The toe was amputated and that wouldn't heal. Finally, in December, she decided to have a below-the-knee amputation.
Now, she is pain free.
She's learning to walk on her artificial leg and is getting a great deal of support from the staff at the YMCA, where she's also a full-time employee.
