Canton Central School District, faced with a  more than $2 million shortfall, could cut as many as two dozen jobs to help balance next years budget.

Among the jobs on the chopping block: teaching positions in grades K through 5, special education, and math, science, and social studies.

Board of education member Janet Favro tells 7 news some of the proposed job cuts would come through attrition and retirement, but there would still have to be some layoffs.

The move would save the district more than a million and a half dollars in next year's budget.

The district is also looking to trim another $30 thousand by eliminating paid assistant coaches, non-league athletic games, and cutting back on equipment purchases.

The proposed budget overview can be found on the district's website: www.ccsdk12.org.
