Civil War Veteran Honored in Watertown

A civil war veteran and Watertown resident was honored Saturday, more than 80 years after his death.

Private Asa Forbes was honored with a military headstone on his grave at the North Watertown Cemetery. Asa joined the army at the age of 16 and even fought at Gettysburg, but never had a military headstone. A regiment from the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War was there to dedicate the stone in a short ceremony along with members from the Copenhagen Legion.

"We researched and found Asa Forbes, my third great grand father, and his role in the Civil War and I was kind of proud of that," said Chad Miller, ancestor.

Asa died in 1927 at the age of 82 in Ogdensburg.
