College Councils to Hold Joint Meeting About Sharing Services

Tools

The college councils at both SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam are refusing to follow a State University of New York directive to share services when it comes to an administrative position.

A rare joint meeting of the two college councils will be held Monday morning to discuss a resolution that asks SUNY Central to allow each campus to hire its own chief fiscal officer rather than share the position.

SUNY has been pressing for the colleges to share administrative and other services as part of a cost cutting campus network plan.

College officials say the vice president for business affairs positions have "vastly different responsibilities on each campus" such as overseeing athletics and financial aid responsibilities.

Both college councils are looking at ways to combine administrative functions in other areas and will report recommendations to the SUNY Board of Trustees in July.

Mondays joint college council meeting will take place at 11 a.m. in SUNY Potsdam's Satterlee Hall Conference Room.
