North Country Heart Walk Raises $200K

People in Watertown took steps toward a healthy heart Saturday for the 18th annual Heart Walk at the fairgrounds.

The walk is designed to help fight heart disease and stroke, and with around one thousand people taking part this year, organizers and walkers alike say they're overwhelmed by the support from the community.

"We are so appreciative of how many people in this community support it, whether it is the close to a thousand people who will be here today, or the many, many, many more than that who have given contributions," said JCC President Dr. Carole McCoy, who chaired the North Country Heart Walk.

"The number of people to see here today and the support that we've gotten - we've doubled our goal - it brings tears to my eyes the amount of support that the North Country brings to the heart association," said Jennifer Foley, who's son Hunter was named an inspirational honoree at the event.

Organizers say the walk raised $200,000, which will go to things like educational programs and CPR training.
