With many of the automatic federal budget cuts known as sequestration set to be felt soon, North Country Congressman Bill Owens says he is continuing to fight for Fort Drum.
Civilian Workers on post are already expected to take eleven furlough day unpaid time off. But, Owens says when it comes to other cutbacks, specifically any troop reduction, Fort Drum should come out okay.
"We may have a different structure at Fort Drum, but we'll have roughly the same number of troops," said Owens. "We might be up a thousand, down a thousand, but I don't perceive or anticipate any heavy negative impact."
Owens says sequestration and its impact on Fort Drum remains one of his top priorities.
