Zoo Pavilion Finally Finished

A former Watertown Mayor was honored by city officials Saturday afternoon and a project finally completed.

The new pavilion at the Thompson Park Zoo was dedicated to the former mayor Karl R. Burns. Burns was the Mayor from 1976 to 83, it was a difficult time in Watertown's history . He spear-headed the building of an A-frame Aviary, that once sat in the place of that pavilion.

"In keeping with what the original vision was for Karl Burns, he wanted to have a place for education, and that's what we wanted to do," said Bob Gorman, Thompson Park Conservancy Board President.

The Pavilion will be used for educational activities and other events. Burns died in 2002.
