Ritchie Calls for Common Core Meeting in North Country
State senator Patty Ritchie is joining the fight against the state's rollout of new educational standards, known as Common Core.
On Monday, Ritchie asked New York Education Commissioner John King, in a letter, to come to the North country to talk about common core. King has been holding forums across the state on the new school guidelines that include increased testing and higher standards. Ritchie says she has received hundreds of complaints about common core from constituents and wants the north country to be part of the conversation.
"Now, you can't test a child on information they've never been taught. The teachers can't teach the children if they don't have the information to do so.
Ritchie says in her recent school survey, three out of four responders said they were concerned with the new standards.
