Ritchie: Good News for Ogdensburg Psychiatric

Tools

State Senator Patty Ritchie says the delay in the state's decision on the Saint Lawrence Psychiatric Center could be a good sign for Ogdensburg.

Last week, the date everyone would find out the fate of the center was pushed back to July 8.

The center's 550 workers have been on pins and needles over what the future may hold, as the state undergoes a reorganization of mental health facilities in an effort to downsize inpatient services while increasing out patient services.

"It's hard for me to believe considering the governor knows the economic climate here that he would you know, allow another 550 jobs...to go out the door," said Ritchie.

Part of the reason of the delay until July 8, is to give the Office of Mental Health more time to look at comments and concerns about reorganization.
