Sales Tax Revenue Down in Lewis County

It has been a banner year for sales tax revenue for Jefferson County.

Collections in the first quarter of 2012 were up by nearly six percent over the same period the year before..

Based on last year's collections, officials project the county to end the year 3.74 percent ahead of 2011. (Click here to see our earlier report on the numbers.)

Lewis County, however, is off to a rough start.
Sales tax revenues there were down about one percent for the first quarter, after a mild winter made for slow sales at businesses that rely on winter tourism.

Lewis County Legislature Chair Jack Bush tells 7 News he is not surprised at all by the numbers - It just goes to prove that snow sledders bring a lot of money into the county, and this year, they simply didn't show up.
