Trudeau Institute-Clarkson Deal is "Opportunity of a Lifetime"

Clarkson University President Tony Collins says a partnership with the financially strapped Trudeau Institute of Saranac Lake provides both institutions with opportunities of a lifetime.

The collaboration was unveiled by Governor Andrew Cuomo Wednesday in Lake Placid. Collins says the state's plan to infuse $35 million dollars for research and technology will help the university and save 80 jobs at the struggling Trudeau Institute. When parties were trying to come up with ways to save the institute, Collins says they had a "eureka moment."

"We didn't quite realize it until we got into it, but there's an opportunity here that's way beyond ensuring the financial future of Trudeau," said Collins.

Collins says university faculty at the Center for Advanced Materials Processing is already working on research to develop innovative drug delivery systems.
