Watertown Man Arrested After Standoff in Cortlandville

A Watertown man surrendered to police and was arrested after a three hour standoff Saturday night in Cortland County.

John Downes, 55, Watertown, is charged with Menacing, second degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, second degree.

State police in Homer say they were called to a residence in the town of Cortlandville on a complaint of a man pulling a handgun during an argument. When police arrived at the residence, Downes refused to leave the house and stayed in there alone for three hours as police camped outside. He eventually exited the house and was arrested. No one was hurt
