The Jefferson County Historical Society is pleased to announce the opening of the museum’s newest permanent exhibition, The History of the Iroquois Confederacy.

The exhibition discusses the religion, social customs, government structure, gender roles, clothing, and cuisine of the Native American tribes that originally inhabited this area.

On display are examples of Iroquois pottery, bead work, and basketry as well as a collection of arrowheads, some of which date back almost 6,000 years! The exhibition was inspired by an overwhelming number of requests left in our visitor feedback box and is housed on the second floor of the museum.

To see this show, or to tour our other exciting exhibitions, please visit the museum between the hours of 10 A.M. and 5 P.M.

Tuesday through Friday, and Saturdays from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. The museum is located at 228 Washington Street in Watertown.  $5 general admission, $4 for seniors and active military, $3 for students. Museum members and children under the age of 5 are admitted for free. For questions or for more information, please call 782-3491.
