On Monday, November 9, 2009 the Jefferson Community College (JCC) health office will host a presentation on sports concussions by Dr. Brian Rieger of State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University. Rieger’s presentation entitled “Recognizing and Managing Sports Concussions” will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Robert R. and Jean S. Sturtz Theater.
Admission to the presentation is free and the public is invited to attend.
Dr. Rieger is a chief psychologist and clinical assistant professor in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at SUNY Upstate.
Additionally, he is the director of the Concussion Management Program and the Central New York Sports Concussion Center at University Hospital in Syracuse where he has also been a psychologist for eleven years. As a specialist on brain injuries, Rieger speaks frequently at medical, sports and community forums about sport-related concussions and concussions in general.
Rieger is a member of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Concussion Management Team and is the psychology liaison to the NYSPHSAA Safety Committee. Additionally, he serves on the Injury Prevention and Public Awareness Committee of the New York State Traumatic Brain Injury Coordinating Council. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University, Connecticut, and earned his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Fordham University, New York City.
