10th Sustainment Brigade Cases Colors

By Scott Atkinson

Representatives from all 30 plus units under the 10th Sustainment Brigade gathered for a color-casing ceremony on Fort drum Thursday afternoon.

Four units, including the Brigade Headquarters, are deploying for different missions in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait. They will all be providing the support that keeps soldiers on the front lines in the fight.

The brigade's commander says, they're ready.

"I mean we've been working at this for almost two years. We've been around the United States in multiple certification exercises and really feel prepared to assume this mission," said Col. Kurt Ryan, 10th Sustainment Brigade Commander.

Casing their colors Thursday were:

  • 10th Sustainment Brigade (Headquarters)

    • Deploys to Afghanistan in October 2011 to provide sustainment support and partnership throughout Regional Commands East, North, and Capital. (That's about half the country!)

  • 10th Sustainment Brigade Troops Battalion

    • Deploys with Brigade Headquarters in October 2011 to provide logistical support and Combined Action Teams to units through out Regional Commands East, North, and Capital.

  • 7th Engineer Battalion

    • Deploys to Afghanistan in October 2011 to provide route clearance and construction support throughout Regional Command East.

  • 59th Chemical Company, 63rd Explosive Ordinance Disposal Battalion

    • Deploying to Kuwait in November 2011 to provide chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defense expertise in support of Operation New Dawn.

These units will join four others with the 10th Sustainment Brigade already deployed. Another five will be deploying within the next six months.
