2 Former Soldiers Accused Of Burglarizing Fort Drum Facility

Two former soldiers are accused of breaking into a Fort Drum storage building and trying to steal military equipment.

State police arrested 21 year old James Kirik of Edinboro, Pennsylvania, and 23 year old Brandon Gerwerth of 711 Elm Street in Carthage.

Both are charged with a felony county of third-degree burglary.

According to police, the duo broke into a storage building at Fort Drum's 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion motor pool and attempted to remove military equipment.

Police said military authorities caught the men in the act and turned them over to state police.

There's no word on what Kirik and Gerwerth were allegedly trying to steal, but police said it was not weapons.

Police said the men were previously stationed at Fort Drum.

The suspects were arraigned in Leray Town Court and remanded to the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail pending grand jury action.
