Fort Drum Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

The Department of Defense has confirmed the death of a Fort Drum soldier who was serving in Afghanistan.

Pfc. Jeremiah J. Monroe, 31, of Niskayuna, NY, died Sept. 17 in Kandahar Afghanistan of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. 

He was assigned to the 7th Engineer Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, at Fort Drum.

According to Monroe's hometown television station WTEN, he is survived by a daughter, as well as a large family in Horicon, in Warren County.

WTEN is also reporting Monroe has been in Afghanistan since July.
