Lewis County Veterans Services Agency Temporarily Closes

The Lewis County Veterans Services Agency has temporarily closed its doors after its local director was terminated.

Lewis County Manager David Pendergast says he closed the office because the American Legion withdrew its accreditation for director Dwyane Croniser.

That accreditation is necessary for a representative to act on behalf of veterans seeking benefits.

While the office remains closed, veterans with questions about claims or benefits are being asked to call 376-5316.

Jefferson and St. Lawrence County Veterans Service Agency personnel have also offered their help.

Lewis County and the legion declined comment on why Croniser was, in effect, terminated from the job.
