Celebrating Armed Forces Day

The Watertown community had a chance to say 'thank you' to the men and woman of the military as the city's 62nd annual Armed Forces Day parade made its way down Washington Street Saturday.

While the 10th Mountain Division was well represented, the parade included the jefferson county sheriff's office, fire companies, and marching bands.

But of course, the day was all about supporting the military:

"We are from the Carthage Central School District, and a lot of our community is military-based, so we wanted to come out and support the armed forces today," said Rhonda Phillips, who came out to watch the parade.

Armed Forces Day is a good day to show that support. But the men and women in uniform do a lot to earn the community's support all year round.

7 News caught up with 10th Mountain Division Commander Major General Mark Milley on post yesterday. He says he is enormously proud of what his troops have done in over a decade at war.

"This division and its soldiers have sacrificed tremendously for the American people, and have done so with tremendous skill, capability, pride and discipline," he said.

Saturday's Armed Forces parade was emceed by 7 News' own weatherman, John Kubis.
