Dexter Dedicates WW II Veterans Memorial

245 people from the village of Dexter served in the armed forces in World War II - That's about a quarter of the village's total population.

Sunday, that community gathered to honor those vets, by dedicating a permanent memorial inside the municipal building.

The cast bronze plaque listing all their names replaces the World War II Honor Roll that was originally on the village green, and the one that came after near the village offices. Both deteriorated in the north country weather.

This new Honor Roll ensures those vets will not be forgotten.

"Obviously those who served in the war from our village, or any our nation's wars, we're proud of, and we want to remember those who gave service to our country," said Bill Haller, Vice President of the Dexter Historical Society.

Haller says the new World War II Honor Roll cost about $4,000. The community generously donated the money to make it possible.
