Flags on New York government buildings were flying at half-staff Monday to honor a Fort Drum soldier fatally injured during combat in Afghanistan a week ago.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered the flags lowered in honor of Pfc. Christian Chandler, who died on April 28 in Baraki Barak District, Logar Province, Afghanistan when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment of the 10th Mountain Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team.

Chandler was a resident of Trenton, Texas.
