Fort Drum Day Care Could Be Cut One Day A Week
About 900 solider and civilian families will lose day care services one day a week if furloughs go into effect for some Fort Drum employees.
Fort Drum officials announced late Monday morning that Child, Youth and School Services employees were notified Saturday they would be furloughed.
CYSS runs day care for Fort Drum personnel. Officials say all CYSS programs will be closed on Fridays starting April 26.
Unless the mandated federal budget cuts called sequestration are avoided, the furloughs would last through September 30, which is the end of the federal fiscal year.
Fort Drum officials say the affected families need to find alternative child care on Fridays if the cuts go into effect.
