Fort Drum Drone Improvements Reportedly In Defense Bill
Nearly $5 million has reportedly been allocated for new facilities to fly and recover drones at Fort Drum.
According to Syracuse.com, the $4.7 million is part of a $607 billion defense spending bill. It's been approved by both the Senate and the House and awaits the president's signature.
The New York Air National Guard's 174th Attack Wing flies the MQ-9 Reaper drones on training missions, operating the aircraft remotely from Hancock Field in Syracuse.
The drones take off and land at Fort Drum's Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield.
The federal money will pay for construction of a two-bay hangar for the drones and to widen a taxiway to the airfield.
