Fort Drum Mass-Casualty Exercise Could Disrupt Traffic
There could be some congestion around Fort Drum's airfield Thursday.
Army officials say there's a mass-casualty exercise at Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield starting at 8:30 a.m.
That could mean detours, congestion, rubber-necking delays and sudden changes in traffic patterns, Fort Drum officials say.
The airfield is off State Route 26, which is a major route for many local commuters.
Personnel are asked to be on the airfield before 8:30 if they can. The disruption cold last until 3 p.m.
Officials say it's not unusual for people to face additional security checks, longer lines at the gate and disruptions to daily
activities during events like this.
Officials say the exercise will include local, state and federal
participants and revolve around an active-shooter scenario.
