A 10th Mountain Division soldier from Merced, California died Monday in Logar province, Afghanistan, from a non-combat related incident.

Fort Drum officials say 34 year old Spec. Terry Hurne was with the 710th Brigade Support Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. He was a utilities equipment repairer.

Hurne joined the Army in July 2009. After completing training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Fort Lee, Virginia he arrived at Fort Drum in February 2010.

He deployed to Afghanistan in March 2011 to March 2012. Hurne deployed with his unit in November 2013 to Afghanistan.  

Hurne's awards and decorations include two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, two Afghanistan Campaign Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, and the Driver and Mechanic Badge with Mechanic.  

Hurne completed the Combatives Level 1 School, the Transportation School and the Combat Lifesavers Course.

He is survived by his wife, mother and father.
