There are a number of people on Fort Drum whose lives were affected by the events of September 11th, 2001.

One of those people is Sergeant Ross Cameron, then in eighth grade.

"I just saw what a toll it took on people in this country. I wanted to stand up and help. I wanted to do something about it. I wanted to make sure it didn't happen again," said Cameron.

Cameron joined the Army in February 2009.

Today, he's a member of the 227th Military Police Detachment at Fort Drum.

For Cameron and other soldiers who joined because of the events of September 11, 2001, the 12th anniversary of the attacks provides a humble reminder.

"It makes you remember why you joined and remember the bigger picture and reflect upon everything and the bigger mission that's out there," he said.
