Fort Drum soldier Dies In Afghanistan

Fort Drum says a 10th Mountain Division soldier died Monday at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan as the result of a non-combat related incident.

Private First Class Joshua Gray was a member of the Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion.

The 21 year old satellite communications system operator maintainer was from Van Lear, Kentucky.

Fort Drum said Gray joined the Army in November 2012.

After completing training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina he was assigned to Fort Gordon, Georgia and Fort Benning, Georgia.

Gray arrived at Fort Drum in October 2013.

He deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in January 2014.

Gray's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the NATO Medal, the Overseas Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and the Expert Marksmanship Badge.

Gray is survived by his mother and father.
