Fort Drum's Incoming Commander No Stranger To Local Post

Fort Drum's new commander has been announced.

The Army said Major General Mark Milley, deputy director for regional operations, J-3, The Joint Staff, Washington, D.C., will take over command of the 10th Mountain Division.

According to 7 News records, Milley is no stranger to Fort Drum.

He took over command of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team in May 2003 and left Fort Drum in September 2005.

Milley is a Princeton University graduate who has served in a number of missions in Iraq, Somalia, Haiti and Bosnia.

Milley also served at Fort Drum in the early to mid 1990's.

There's no word on when Milley will take over command from Major General James Terry, who has been nominated to command V Corps, U.S. Army Europe and Seventh Army.
