Gen. Milley Appears On WPBS's 'Public Eye' Friday

More helicopters in the skies and more live fire on Fort Drum.

This summer, a training exercise called Mountain Peak will involve thousands of soldiers at the local post.

The 10th Mountain Division commander, Maj. Gen. Mark Milley, appears on Public Eye Friday night.

Milley calls this summer's training intense and high density.

It will run from late July into August and involve 15,000 to 20,000 soldiers.

It'll involve the 2nd and 3rd brigades and also bring in the Air Force to train with the Army soldiers.

Milley said there will be live fires, artillery, attack helicopters, Air Force aircraft and weapons systems such as mortar.

"We'll bring in all the different weapons systems and it'll be fairly consistent for weeks at a time," he said

Public Eye is a WPBS production in  cooperation with 7 News. It airs Friday on WPBS at 8:30 p.m.

The commanding general also speaks about budget cuts, the housing crunch and a report on the warrior transition unit that the general calls damning for Fort Drum.
