The new Fort Drum Connector Road officially has a new name - the Paul Cerjan Memorial Highway.

Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation Tuesday to formally name I-781in honor of the late 10th Mountain Division soldier.

"It is my honor to sign this legislation that will recognize the commitment and accomplishments of Lieutenant General Cerjan, as well as the tremendous impact he had on the North Country and Fort Drum base," Governor Cuomo said. "Lieutenant General Cerjan was a true New Yorker, who for decades dedicated his time and energy to protect Americans, including building Fort Drum into the world class military base it is today.

State Senator Patty Ritchie (R - 48th District) introduced the legislation.

The late U.S. Army lieutenant general and former 10th Mountain Division soldier served our country for more than 30 years.

Among other things, he was responsible for the planning, programming and execution of the construction project that transformed Fort Drum from a small reserve training center into a world class Army installation in the 1980s.
