Fort Drum welcomed a new Deputy Commander for Support Wednesday, and said good-bye to another.
Brigadier General Walter Piatt is leaving the position to become Commanding General of the Joint Multinational Training Center in Germany. It's the Army's largest training command outside the continental United States.
"Walt Piatt is not only a great deputy, he's a good friend," said Major General Stephen Townsend, Commanding General of the 10th Mountain Division.
"I've known him since he was a major here and I was a lieutenant colonel. We first met here in about 1999."
Gen. Piatt will be replaced by Col. Carl Alex, who has served as the deputy chief legislative liason at the Pentagon since last year, after a long career in infantry.
