Military Matters: New App Makes It Easier To Buy Gifts For Loved Ones Overseas
Want to let your loved ones know exactly what you want when you're deployed?
There's an app for that.
It's creator, a former soldier and West Point grad, got the idea from personal experience during multiple deployments to Iraq.
"I was always asked about 'hey, what can we send you?'" Tim Fisher said.
"Instead of always having to retype out the list and email or copy and paste links of stuff I wanted, I thought this would just be a better way to do it," he said.
That way is something called Grasket -- as in, grab it and put it in your basket.
Basically, you can drag any item for sale on any website into the Grasket on your toolbar
That puts everything into one big wish-list that you can share with your family and friends.
It's also meant to make it easier for deployed soldiers to shop for their family members.
"And the soldier, even though they're half way across the world can still be part of the holiday," Fisher said.
"So I thought I wanted to try to rush it out as quick as possible."
It's still a work in progress. Right now, it's just available online, but work is underway to get a Grasket app for smart phones soon.
"We want to make improvements to it going down the line," Fisher said.
"We think it's a great, valuable product for soldiers and their families right now."
