August 15
Functional Fitness Center Opening
-7 a.m., in the Arts & Crafts Building, Conway Rd.
-Open Monday through Friday 7 a.m.- Noon, and Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
The Fort Drum Family and MWR Fitness program is excited to announce the opening of the Functional Fitness Center on August 15. Functional Fitness maintains and improves an individual’s ability to perform the activities of daily life more easily and without injuries. This type of workout involves mainly weight bearing activities targeted at core muscles of the abdomen and lower back. The Functional Fitness Center is located in the Arts and Crafts Building P-4325 on Conway Road and will be open Monday through Friday 7AM – noon and Saturday 10 AM – 5 PM. Space is limited and patrons will be accommodated on a first come first served basis. For more information, call Monica Smith at 772-4936.

Summer Feeding Program

-Kids get FREE Meals
This summer, kids can enjoy great food and good times with friends at a Summer Food site right in their own neighborhood. The Summer Food Service Program provides free, nutritious meals to all children under 18. Parental supervision required for children under 15. Come join the fun! Mondays - Monument Ridge Community Center, Wednesdays - Rhicard Hills Community Center, Thursdays - Adirondack Creek Community Center, Fridays-Crescent Woods Community Center. Horseback Riding at Remington Park

-Every Tuesday and Thursday through August
Every Tuesday and Thursday (June 28 through August) you can enjoy guided horseback riding on the trails of Remington Park. Free to DoD ID Card holders. This adventure begins at Lloyds Landing and is on a first come, first served basis. Call Randy Dobson at 772-4765 for more information.

2011 Flag Football Tournament Registration Deadline
-Rosters are due to the Sports Office by 4 p.m.
-Tournament: 9 a.m., On the fields behind Monti Physical Fitness Center
This event will be conducted on the fields behind Monti Physical Fitness Center. Rosters are due to Sports Office, Bldg, P-10050, by 4 pm August 17. This tournament is open to all Active Duty Military assigned or attached to Fort Drum, Family Members 19 years of age or older with valid Military ID Card, and DoD Civilians employed on Fort Drum. Beginning Pottery Class
-5 p.m.-7 p.m, Ceramic and Pottery Studios
-Instruction fee is $30, includes supplies.
Learn the basics of pottery, hand building, wedging clay, extruder and the wheel in this three session class (8/10, 8/17, 8/24). 772-5606.

Join the ACS Financial Readiness Program for its weekly budget development class. Participants should bring in their most recent Leave and Earnings Statement or other income sources and a listing (or a copy) of all their bills. Federal Employment Workshop
-Employment Readiness Program

Learn the ins and outs of the Federal Employment System at ACS. Applying for federal employment can often be confusing and a little frustrating if you are not familiar with the procedures. This free workshop allows time to work on your federal resume using the Employment Readiness computer lab.

International Spouses Support Group

Meet Army spouses from your own country or make friends with different nationalities. Food, music, laughter, and friendship can be yours. Children welcome.
 
Family Friday Night Campfire and Outdoor Movie
-8 p.m., Remington RV Park
-Free Event to all DoD ID card holders
Parks and Recreation invites you to enjoy an old fashioned community outing at The Remington RV Park Outdoor Movie. RV park staff will also provide a campfire with s’mores fixings at 8 p.m. A Family movie will be shown at 9 p.m. on the outdoor movie screen. Red, White, and Blueberry Festival
-Begins at 10 a.m., Four Seasons Flea Market, Just North of Richville
-Event to benefit Care Packages For Soldiers
A Red, White and Blueberry Festival, to benefit Care Packages for Soldiers, will be hosted by the Four Seasons Flea Market, about 4 miles north of Richville on Route 11. The event will feature live music provided by The Revolution, Terry McKendree's chain saw artistry demonstrations, area crafters displaying their work, raffles drawn throughout the day, bake sale, games and prizes for the kids, and Red, White, and Blueberry desserts. Fort Drum Community-Wide Yard Sale

-Open to shoppers from on and off post
It is the perfect time to clean out the closets and storage areas and make a little money. This community-wide yard sale is well attended by smart shoppers from on and off the installation. You can also save money by seeing what your neighbors on Fort Drum are selling at a fraction of what it would cost new. Please remove any sale signage immediately following the event. Tickets on Sale for MWR-AUSA “Ride the River” Event
-Tickets available at McEwen Library and Magrath Sports Complex through August 31.
-Ride the River: September 1, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
End the summer right at the Family and MWR- AUSA Fort Drum Ride The River event in Clayton New York. Tickets are available at the McEwen Library and Magrath Sports complex to Military ID card holders and their guests through August 31. Adult tickets are $5 each, tickets for children 6 to 12 are $3 and children under 5 are free. Your ticket includes admission to the world famous Antique Boat Museum where you will be given the chance to take a boat ride on the Saint Lawrence River, enjoy the guided tour of the museum, and explore the 106 foot houseboat, “LaDuchesse”. A leisurely barbeque picnic lunch is included for you and your friends or family at the museum river shed. Hitch a ride on the trolley to explore the village of Clayton where you will find many quaint shops, galleries, nationally renowned museums, and fine restaurants. Strong Beginnings Pre-Kindergarten Boot Camp

The Army Strong Beginnings Pre-K is a program designed to prepare children for success when entering school. This one-week, intensive Kindergarten orientation is aimed at children who have never attended the regular Strong Beginnings program or those children who have moved to the Fort Drum area over the summer. Children enrolling must be 5 years of age and entering Kindergarten this fall for the new school year. To enroll your child, contact Parent Central Services at Clark Hall, Second Floor or call (315) 772-8675. Space is limited please enroll soon. This Boot Camp provides children an opportunity to obtain a better understanding of what kindergarten will be like. Level II courses target leaders and are geared toward professional growth and development and communication skills, stress management, conflict resolution, and more.
