Military Free Ski Day at Snow Ridge
-Snow Ridge Ski Resort, Turin, NY
-Every Wednesday
Free to Military ID Card holders. Ski for free at Snow Ridge Ski Resort located in Turin, NY on any Wednesday through the ski season. New Ski equipment is available for rent from Parks and Recreation on Fort Drum or you can receive a 25% discount on rental equipment at Snow Ridge. Snowmobile Safety Class
-8 a.m.-4: p.m.
-Cost: $5/person
Rider safety class are required to use the snowmobiles and participate in snowmobile trips. Sign up early. Must be 18 years of age or older and have proper ID. Framing Class
-Two sessions: 2/8 & 2/9, 1 p.m.-4 p.m., Arts and Crafts
-Instruction fee: $20, plus materials
Attend two afternoon classes to learn how to frame pictures or prints. Bring in an item to frame (no bigger than 16x20), learn how to single cut opening in mat, cut frame stock and glass, the put it all together. Cross Country Ski and Lunch

The fun begins at Parks and Recreation when participants are fitted with equipment and given training, then offered a van ride to Remington Park Trail Head. Skiing is enjoyed until 11 am after which a lunch of soup and sandwich is provided by the Commons and is at a cost of $7.00 per person. Beginner Sewing Class

This three part class will teach how to operate a sewing machine, read a pattern, and construct pajama bottoms. Instruction fee for all three sessions is $30, plus supplies. A supply list will be provided at the first class. If you own a sewing machine, please bring this to the class along with the machine instruction book. Machines are available for use. BOSS Takes You to the Movies
-Friday and Saturday nights
Boss will supply transportation to and from the REEL TIME Theater on Fort Drum. Soldiers mush call at least one hour prior to the movie time to schedule a pick up. Soldiers being transported in a BOSS vehicle will be given a discounted admission to the movie and a REEL TIME Express Voucher from the EXCHANGE. Rides are available for Friday and Saturday night movies only. Call 772-7807.
 
McEwen Library Snow Sculpture Competition Ending
-Winners announced February 11
For some outdoor snow fun, McEwen Library will hold a post-wide Snow Sculpture Competition, beginning Jan. 7 and continuing through Feb. 11. The competition is open to all DoD ID card holders and encourages individual, family, military units, or civilian employee team participation. Sculptures can be any size, must be on Fort Drum, and suitable for family viewing. Prizes will be awarded to the best entries by unit or facility, community housing, family, individual adult, individual teen, and individual child. Winners will be announced at the Winter Celebration Party held Feb. 11 at the library. Complete rules and entry information is available for each of these competitions at McEwen Library, located at 4300 Conway Road, or by calling 772-9099.

BOSS Ski Trip to Titus Mountain

Take advantage of Titus Mountain’s Soldier Appreciation Day with BOSS. Free lift tickets free to Military ID holders. BOSS will cover ski equipment rental costs for any Single Soldier with BOSS on this trip. Sign-up for remaining seats for transportation only will be open to married Soldiers, Spouses, and children one week prior to the trip. SPCA 18th Annual Bark and Wine Valentine's Auction

Army Emergency Relief Scholarships Submissions

AER is helping the Army take care of its own. The AER Scholarship program offers education cost assistance to Military Spouses and Dependent Children through two scholarship programs. The next "This is A Solider 101" will be held 14 February 2012 at the Italian American Civic Assocation located at 192 Bellew Avenue, Watertown. The day features two sessions: one in the morning running from 8:30-11:40AM, and a second from 1-4:10PM. This is an excellent program for business owners, staff, family members, or any one that would like to better understand the Army's protocol. The agenda includes topics like: Expectations and the Impact of the Mission on the Family Life, The Chain of Command, Introduction to Military Customs and Courtesies, and Introduction to Military and Civilian Community Resources. Snowmobile Ride

Join Adventure Training on local snow trails riding their snowmobiles. Cost is $50 per snowmobile. Riders must have taken the snowmobile safety class, be over 18 years of age, and have a valid ID to operate the machines. This ride is dependent on the condition of the trail system. BOSS Texas Hold 'Em Tournament

This tournament will be held at the Commons in the Winners Circle. Doors open at noon for tournament registration. The deals will begin at 1 pm, and at that time registration will be closed. Players will be provided a beginning bank of a set amount of chips. Players will continue until they are out. There is $600 in prize money. This event is open to all Soldiers and DoD Civilians. Moon Light Ski Tour

Parks and Recreation invite cross country skiers to ski the torch lit trails of Remington Park at this fun event.
