Kids Bowl Free in August
-During normal Pine Plains Bowling Center Hours
The Pine Plains Bowling Center is offering two free games of bowling per child, per day throughout August with a regular paying Adult. This offer is not valid Friday or Saturday after 5 pm. Up to three children can bowl free per one regular paying adult. Shoe rental is not included with child’s free games. For more information, call Cindy Fleming at 772-6601.

In Her Shoes: Living With Domestic Violence

This simulation activity is used to increase awareness of the struggles that women with abusive partners face. The activity illustrates how domestic violence is a community tragedy, not a private problem, the ups and downs a battered woman faces over the course of many years, and shows how we all have a role in the movement to end domestic violence. BOSS Outdoor Movie

Enjoy a movie on a warm summer evening in the great outdoors at the BOSS Outdoor Movie. This outdoor movie will be shown at the BOSS center in the rear lawn (T-2190 Nash Boulevard) this activity is offered compliments of BOSS. The Movie starts at sundown. Bring your folding chairs, blankets, bug spray and snacks. Popcorn and drinks will be for sale by BOSS. BOSS Mount Marcy Hike

-Cost: $15/person
Hike to Mount Marcy which is one of the highest peaks in the Adirondack Mountains will be conducted 11 August. Cost is $15 per person with a limit of 15 participants. Soldier must be an admin hiking as Mount Marcy is a difficult mountain. Call BOSS to reserve your seat. Contact: Michelle Roden, 772-7807
 
Teen Trip to Keewaydin State Park

-Registration deadline: July 31
Teens in grades 6 - 12 can spend a day on The St Lawrence River with the Fort Drum Youth Center staff. Cost is $2 and registration is due by July 31. Call Steve Ferguson at 772-6719 for more information.
 
4th Annual Bobcats, Bears, and Brews
-5:30 p.m.-9 p.m., New York State Zoo at Thompson Park, Watertown
Roam the Zoo at sunset and enjoy live music, adult beverages and great food. Bobcats, Bears and Brews features tastings from a whole “herd” of local eateries and a “gaggle” of New York State breweries and distributors. Over 30 breweries, wineries, and local eateries, Bobcats, Bears and Brews is a great way to have fun and support the creatures at Zoo!
Tickets are on sale now at the New York State Zoo and on the Zoo’s website, NYSZoo.org. Pre-sale tickets are $30, Military and groups of 6 or more can purchase tickets for $25 each. Tickets at the door on the night of the event will be $35. Tickets include admission into the event, a commemorative sampling mug and tasting tokens. Remember this is an adult only event and no one under the age of 21 will be admitted.
 
UFC Pay-Per-View

This Pay-Per-View UFC event is at the Commons in the Winner’s Circle Sports Bar. Enjoy this popular pastime with friends while partaking of your favorite food and beverages. Pre-fight activities begin at 9 pm with the main event beginning at 10 pm. Brought to your free, compliments of Fort Drum BOSS. Teen Whitewater Rafting Trip

Army 10-Miler Qualifier

This 10-K race will begin and end at Magrath Sports Complex. Registration is encouraged and will be accepted at the Sports Office through August 14. Onsite registration will be from 5:15 – 6:15 am only. No exceptions. This race is open to active duty Soldiers attached or assigned to Fort Drum who wish to qualify for the Army 10-Miler to be held in October in Washington DC. Grand Opening of BOSS at Jack T Sweet Complex

Fort Drum’s Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers is pleased to announce the opening of its newest facility. A ribbon-cutting ceremony and cake cutting is scheduled at 11 a.m. on August 17, 2012 at the Jack T Sweet Complex. BOSS representatives and staff will be on hand to welcome single Soldiers and the entire Fort Drum Community to tour this new facility and enjoy a free barbeque lunch immediately following the ceremony while supplies last. Fort Drum Rides The River
-Clayton, NY
The Fort Drum Community can enjoy the end of summer with Fort Drum Rides the River on August 30 in Clayton. This will be the second year that Family and MWR has partnered with Lockheed Martin to host a fun-filled day on the St. Lawrence River. Tickets are on sale at the Family and MWR window on the second floor of Clark Hall and at Parks and Recreation for $5 per adult ticket and $3 for children between the ages of 6-12. Children 5 years of age and younger can enjoy the day for free with no ticket necessary.
Each ticket includes admission to the world-famous Antique Boat Museum where visitors can take a self-guided tour of the museum, grounds, and explore the 106-foot Rand McNally houseboat “La Duchesse”. Children’s activities will be available featuring crafts, family photos, and more. Ticket holders can take a narrated boat ride on the St. Lawrence River by Clayton Area Tours and learn about the grandeur of the Thousand Islands. A barbecue picnic lunch at the museum river shed is also included and visitors are invited hitch a ride on the Family and MWR trolley to explore the village of Clayton and its many shops, galleries, museums and restaurants.
Bus shuttle transportation to Fort Drum Rides The River will leave Magrath Sports Complex on August 30 at 9 and 10 am, noon, and 1 pm and return shuttles will leave Clayton at 1, 2, 3, and 4 pm. Family and MWR is not responsible for the transportation of expenses incurred by individuals who fail to ride the last bus back to Fort Drum leaving Clayton at 4 pm. This event is open to all Soldiers, Family Members, Civilians, and their guests. Call 772-5370 for additional information.
