English for Speakers of Other Languages Class -9 a.m.-Noon, Army Community Service ACS Relocation Office offers this class every Tuesday and Thursday for Military Family Members who wish to improve speaking the English language. Call Scarlett Sharkey at 772-6566 for more information. Troop Self-Help Staff Offers Training on Carpentry Tools -9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. -Every Tuesday and Thursday
The Troop Self-Help Service Center, 2150 Nash Blvd., hosts classes from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, except federal and training holidays. The staff will offer training on various carpentry tools (table saws, routers, planers, etc.). Individuals who complete the training and demonstrate the ability to operate the tools safely will receive a Public Works Operator / Safety Card for use in the Troop Self-Help Center. Upon receiving a PW Operator / Safety Card, unit repair and upkeep personnel will be able to initiate troop self-help projects. Use of the Troop Self Help Center equipment is restricted to unit projects only. Units that require additional information may call the Troop Self-Help Service Center at 772-6072. Volunteer Ceremony Rescheduled The Volunteer of the Month ceremony, originally scheduled for November 15, has been rescheduled to November 27 at 10:30 a.m. in the Commons. November 16 USO Home for the Holidays -7 p.m.-11:30 p.m., The Commons Join the USO Fort Drum at the Commons for “Home for the Holidays” to celebrate the military who have arrived home from Afghanistan in time for the holidays and to enjoy the holiday season with those getting ready to leave for Afghanistan in 2013. The event features free food and beverages (beer, wine, soda, and coffee), and free entertainment from the band “Splash” & the Buffalo Bills cheerleaders, the Buffalo Jills! The three major units deploying in 2013 will each be presented a USO MEGS (Mobile Entertainment Gaming System) to take with them. “Home for the Holidays” is open to Active Duty/Guard Military Members and their families, ages 18 and up. Barracks Shuttle Bus runs from 1830-2400. Snowmobile Safety Class -9 a.m., Parks & Rec This class is held at Parks and Recreation training area. Rider safety courses are required to use the snowmobiles owned by Family and MWR on scheduled trips. Patrons must be 18 years of age or older and have proper ID to attend this class. Please wear or bring boots, gloves, and appropriate outer wear. Maximum class size is 55. Cost per person is $5. Registration is required. Teen Midnight Sports -8 p.m.-Midnight, Youth Center Teens in grades 6 – 12 are invited to the Youth Center to enjoy a pick-up game of basketball and play until midnight. Run is open to active duty military assigned/attached to Fort Drum, Family members, retirees, reservists, and DOD civilians employed on Fort Drum. Runners can register at race site starting at 7:30 am the day of the event until the beginning of the race at 8 am. Your dog is welcome to run with your but you must bring their NYS registration and leash if you bring your four legged friend. November 22 – Thanksgiving Day BOSS Home for the Holidays -11 a.m.-11 p.m., Nash Blvd. BOSS Center BOSS invites you to feel at Home for the Holidays at the Nash Blvd BOSS Center when they open their doors to an old fashioned Thanksgiving. To start off the Thanksgiving Holiday, BOSS will host a fun game of flag football in their side yard starting at Noon. Once the game is over come inside to warm up by watching the football games. Roasted turkey with all of the traditional side dishes will be offered starting at 2pm. Along with the great meal watch the football games on their many big screen TVs. Available will be gaming, billiards, and Cyber Café for keeping in touch with friends and family. The BOSS center is your home away from home throughout the holidays. November 23 Black Friday Shopping at the Fort Drum Exchange -Doors open at 4 a.m. Military shoppers can come early and gobble up the savings as the Fort Drum Exchange will open its doors at 4 a.m. Nov. 23 for “Black Friday” sales. “From our family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving,” said Ken Limtiaco, Fort Drum Exchange general manager. The Fort Drum Exchange will pass out take-a-tickets for the most popular “door buster” items, as well as bounce back coupons that can be used throughout the weekend that add value and excitement to this year’s event. Clothing Drive for Soldiers

Post 79 of the American Legion is currently holding a clothing drive to benefit Fort Drum soldiers and their families. The clothes will be used to help families that have moved from the south and are in need of winter clothing. The drive will run until November 29.
