More 3rd BCT Troops Come Home From Afghanistan

There were plenty of tears and cheers Friday at Fort Drum.

The last large group of the 10th Mountain Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team arrived home from Afghanistan.

The arrival of 240 troops means that most of Fort Drum's 3,400 soldiers are back on post.

"Every member of this country should be very proud of what they did. The Spartans won and now the Spartans are home," said Command Sergeant Major Jimmy Carabello of the 3rd BCT's Task Force Spartan.

One final, smaller group from the brigade is expected back in the next couple days.

Army officials say fewer than 100 troops are in Afghanistan to wrap up the brigade's yearlong deployment in Kandahar Province.
