"Run for the Fallen" Raises Money for Wounded Warriors

People in the village of Alexandria Bay came together for a "Run for the Fallen" Saturday.

It's a nationwide event with supporters running one mile in honor of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This run was dedicated to Private First Class Jack Sweet. The Alex Bay-native was killed in Iraq in 2008 when his humvee hit a roadside bomb.

His family members say they were overwhelmed by the turnout for today's one-mile run:

"The run is for all the fallen soldiers, but a lot of these people came out to support us and Jack. We lost Jack in '08. It means a lot to us to have all these people show up," explained Glenn Sweet, PFC Jack Sweet's father.

The event raises money for the Wounded Warrior Project.

According to Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, more than 49,000 soldiers have been injured in those wars.
