A 10th Mountain Division soldier suffered a gunshot wound during a live-fire training exercise on Fort Drum late Monday night.

That's according to Fort Drum Public Affairs Director Julie Cupernall.

Cupernall said the incident happened on Fort Drum Range 52.

She said it's standard operating procedure for medical professionals to be on hand during this type of training exercises.

The unidentified soldier was evacuated from the training and later transported via Life-Net helicopter to Upstate Medical
Center in Syracuse.

The soldier was in stable condition as of Tuesday afternoon.

Fort Drum safety officials, unit leadership and the Army Criminal Investigation Division are investigating.
