Unions Negotiate With Fort Drum Over Civilian Furloughs

Tools

It's the third day of negotiations on Fort Drum regarding civilian furloughs.

As a result of sequestration, civilian employees on post will be forced to take one day off per week without pay for 22 weeks.

The unions on Fort Drum are meeting with post leadership to come up with a deal that will make the situation a little easier on civilian employees.

"A 25 to 30 percent reduction in net pay is not ideal for anyone, so if we can ease some of that burden one way or another through these negotiations, that's our goal," said Jeffrey Zuhlke of Local 400 of the American Federation of Government Employees.

The negotiations are expected to continue at through the rest of the week.
