A sergeant accused of secretly videotaping female cadets at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y., pleaded guilty Wednesday following a general court-martial at Fort Drum.

The New York Times reports Sgt. First Class Michael McClendon  will serve a 33-month sentence. His rank will be reduced to private. He will be given a bad-conduct discharge following his sentence.

McClendon was responsible for advising students at West Point. He was accused of videotaping some female cadets as they undressed in a locker room. Other women were recorded in bathrooms and elsewhere on campus.

The case became public last May as outrage was growing over sexual assault in the military.
