It's graduation season not just for high school and college students, but also for law enforcement officials.

Twelve members of the Black River St. Lawrence Valley Police Academy received badges during a graduation ceremony in Watertown on Friday.

Five of the graduates are with the Watertown Police Department.

One graduate is with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

The rest are stationed in departments throughout the north country.

"When we're on the streets, it's huge eye-opener. This is what it really means to be a police officer," said Ernest Miller, who is now a member of the Watertown Police Department.

"They were a very good class. They picked up on most everything we talked about," said Sergeant Suzanne Chartrand of the Watertown Police Department.

Some of the graduates were also honored for their shooting skills, academic excellence and physical fitness.
