A Dexter teenager is in the Jefferson County Jail on drug and shoplifting charges.

State police arrested 16 year old Gerald Woodard and his brother, who was identified only as a juvenile.

According to police, the two were stopped Monday at the store, Zumiez, at the Salmon Run Mall.

Police said witness stated that both youths entered the store and the younger of the two exchanged his worn shoes with a new pair of new shoes and walked outside the store.

When store management confronted the pair, the boys stated that they forgot to put the shoes back, police said.

Management requested payment, but the youths said they didn't have the money, according to police.

During the course of the investigation, police said they found one of the boys in possession of a hypodermic needle, numerous prescription medications and a marijuana pipe with residue.

Woodard was charged with fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic instrument, endangering the welfare of a child and petit larceny.

He was arraigned Watertown Town Court and remanded to the county jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
 
The unidentified boy was charged with petit larceny and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

He was released into the care of his mother and issued a family court appearance ticket.
