One of two Fort Drum soldiers killed this week in Afghanistan has been identified by a Washington state newspaper.
The Yakima Herald identifies one of the soldiers as 32 year old Capt. Aaron Blanchard, formerly of Selah, Washington.
He and a fellow soldier were killed Tuesday when enemy fire struck the forward operating base they were stationed in.
Blanchard, a helicopter pilot, leaves behind a wife, Becky, and two young children, Hunter and Amalia, as well as his parents and two younger brothers.
He had only been in Afghanistan about a week.
