20 New Customs Agents Coming To Alex Bay

Tools

We know a little more about a boost in the number of Customs and Border Patrol agents in Alexandria Bay.

We learned earlier this week that 2,000 more agents will be added nationwide, including some at the local border crossing.

Congressman Bill Owens announced Wednesday that 20 agents will be added.

"Providing these much-needed border resources will make it easier and more affordable for companies in the north country to sell their products and services in Canada, encouraging economic growth and job creation throughout the region," Owens said. "These additional officers will bring added security and ensure that tourism and trade can continue to grow."

Owens, who is stepping down when his term expires at the end of the year, says he's continuing to push for $105 million in the 2015 fiscal year for improvements to the Alexandria Bay port of entry.
